A new edited volume, Biz Erkekler, co-edited by Prof. Dr. Aylin Özman, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Selin Akyüz, and Dr. Gülşen Seven of TED University’s Department of Political Science and International Relations, has been published by İletişim.
Bringing together contributions from scholars working across different disciplines, the volume examines the construction of masculinities in modern Türkiye through the lenses of politics, intellectual history, and literature. Rather than treating masculinity as a fixed or universal category, the book explores how different forms of masculinity have been historically produced and transformed through political, social, and cultural processes.
The volume investigates masculinity narratives across a wide ideological spectrum, including Kemalist modernization, conservative and Islamist thought, nationalism, and socialism. Drawing on the works of influential intellectuals and writers such as Yakup Kadri Karaosmanoğlu, Peyami Safa, Ahmet Ağaoğlu, Necip Fazıl Kısakürek, Nurettin Topçu, Nihal Atsız, Şefik Hüsnü, Hikmet Kıvılcımlı, and Zekeriya Sertel, the contributors offer new perspectives on the relationship between gender, politics, and intellectual history in Türkiye.
Edited by Aylin Özman, Selin Akyüz, and Gülşen Seven, the volume features contributions from leading scholars in the fields of gender studies, political thought, literature, sociology, and history. As an interdisciplinary collection, it makes a significant contribution to the growing scholarship on critical masculinity studies in Türkiye.
