TÜBİTAK-Funded Research Project to Map the International Relations Discipline in Türkiye

A research project led by Prof. Dr. Zuhal Yeşilyurt Gündüz, faculty member in the Department of Political Science and International Relations at TED University, has been awarded funding under the TÜBİTAK 1001 Scientific and Technological Research Projects Support Program.
Entitled “The Discipline of International Relations in Türkiye: Mapping the Discipline and Developing a Roadmap through the Conceptual Framework of Periphery, Semi-Periphery, and Center,” the project investigates the institutional development and intellectual trajectory of the International Relations discipline in Türkiye.
The project examines the current state of International Relations programs across Turkish universities by analyzing their institutional structures through the concepts of center, semi-periphery, and periphery. It aims to provide a comprehensive assessment of the discipline’s academic capacity, knowledge production, institutional development, and national and international visibility.
By producing a systematic analysis of the discipline, the project seeks to identify its strengths and challenges while contributing to future policy discussions and strategic planning for the development of International Relations scholarship in Türkiye.
The research is coordinated by TED University and brings together scholars from different institutions. The research team includes Assoc. Prof. Pelin Sönmez, Assoc. Prof. Zehra Yılmaz Yağcı, and Dr. Elif Kozan as researchers.
